CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN
Based on a Pre-Design Study and the Program of Demands, in this phase one can immediately begin with the Final Design. In case the Pre-Design phase was skipped, it will be necessary at this stage to first make a concept description, the Program of Demands, and a provisional design.
The experts of ColdStoreDesign.com will help you to look ahead at the developments for the next 5 to 10 years. All aspects that can, directly or indirectly, influence the measurements, layout and interior design of the building are covered. Especially the different racking systems will require a lot of discussion.
The choices made in this phase heavily influence the operational costs and the potential profitability throughout the economic lifespan of the plant. Interviews, research, conversations but particularly the ColdStoreDesign.com Checklist plays an important part in the successful realization of the client´s project.
Facility Layout & Drawings
Based on the program of demands from the logistic concept the first step is to design a lay-out that does justice to the service level (storage, cross docking, order picking etc), temperature ranges, wishes for future expansion and modifications, safety and security, and local regulations. The requirements for offices, social rooms, maintenance and infrastructure will be included as well.
Obviously, all this is geared towards the rack systems, lift trucks and their turning circles and other internal transport material. Besides the lay-out, the client will also receive a 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional drawing and a calculation of the dimensions.
Refrigeration System Design
When basic agreement has been reached about lay-out and, more specifically, the underlying starting points, the refrigeration system can be designed. This means, large-scale industrial refrigeration to which high standards apply, especially if a blast freezing unit is planned as well.
Expertise and experience are absolutely indispensable for the design of a safe and cost effective system.
There are no "standard" refrigeration systems; each time, the new ideal combination of equipment/suppliers needs to be found in order to design the best system. Important elements are: type of compressor, condensers, expansion valve, evaporators and … type of refrigerant.
The estimated annual energy consumption of the installation will be calculated.
Cost estimation
Client will receive a rough estimation of the total investment and based on the needs it can be a rather detailed overview.
Site Selection & Location Inspection
Somewhere in this phase, a decision needs to be made about the location and how to best use the available space. An inspection of the plot is very helpful.
Designing a cold store, refrigerated warehouse, distribution center, or processing plant is work for real specialists. It takes a multi-disciplinary approach for the best result.
